Technical surveillance counter-measures are measurement work. The equipment determines which frequency ranges, lines and materials can be covered, and the coverage achieved is documented with the findings.
Where it is used
- Spectrum measurement across the relevant frequency ranges
- Non-linear junction detection for electronics hidden in furniture and structures
- Testing of telephone, network and power lines
- Thermal inspection and systematic physical examination of rooms
Limits
- Devices that are switched off or transmit rarely may not be active during the measurement window.
- Recorders without radio transmission are found only by physical inspection.
- Structural conditions can limit coverage; the limitation is recorded in the report.
